The Motherless Mothers
Lou and Adina, co-founders of The Motherless Mothers, have created a community to welcome women of all backgrounds, cultures, identities and experiences — whether their mother is absent through loss, estrangement, illness or other circumstances.
Having lost my own lovely mum to cancer in 2024—a couple of weeks before my son was born—volunteering my time with the TMM team has felt like a way to honour her, by creating a website that helps others in a similar situation.
the challenge
Their existing Squarespace website did not have an effective donation tool. TMM have a breadth of information available to support their audience, and the main difficulty we found was navigation, what is the main CTA and where to direct the audience from the homepage.
The Concept
By adding in a donate page—including a donate button on the main navigation—and a working store page with products, the website now allows them to receive direct donations, sell courses and workshops.
Starting at sitemap stage and some competitor analysis, we determined the customer journey. Visitors can access a range of free services and resources through an easy-to-use navigation bar with ample opportunity throughout to join community pages, support the charity financially or find other ways to get involved.
We added a Collaborations page in order to showcase their partnerships, with external links, and carousels to display their media articles and features.
